has announced that has been awarded a contract to construct 60 brand new InterRegio (IR) double-deck trains.

Already using a fleet made up of 93 IR and Regio (RE) trains, SBB has chosen to extend their current fleet by a further 60 units, an option made available following purchasing earlier IR and RE units.

Costing over £1 billion, the new trains will be used on regional services and other routes SBB plan to extend their services in the near future. These new trains also meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, ensuring ease of travel for passengers with additional needs.
