Porthmadog’s Welsh Highland Heritage Railway prepares to open

The Welsh Highland Railway Ltd (), in , North Wales, are working hard to prepare the railway for reopening in 2021.

At Gelert's Farm, planning and organisation are taking place ready to hopefully restart services on Saturday 29th May, with steam locomotive-hauled trains returning in July.

The shop at Porthmadog is open Wednesdays to Saturdays between 11 am and 3:30 pm, with only orders available by email or by post.

2021 should also see the completion of two major projects at the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway.

Work on overhauling Baldwin 794 will resume at the Vale of Rheidol Railway when work on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway's ‘The Earl' is complete.

597 will appear in the guise of long-lost WHR locomotive No. 590.

Brand new replica Pickering brake carriage is progressing at Boston Lodge thanks to work being paid for by a sponsor.

Once complete, the WHR will be able to run two heritage trains, one Welsh Highland and one North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways.
