The Trust has announced that it has completed a deal with Llangollen Railway PLC's administrators, Cowgill Holloway Business Recovery LLP, where some railway assets have been purchased as well as the right to use the railway line.

This is the first step towards recovery and now preparations for reopening the line are continuing.

The board of the Trust has started talks with the Welsh Government, Business Wales, Denbighshire County Council and the National Heritage Lottery Fund, which have all been positive, the board says.

However, before reopening, a new Safety Management System will have to have approval from the Office of Rail and Road and Liz Parkes from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has helped the Llangollen Railway Trust with this.

Support has been coming in with contributions amounting to around £85,000 – this will allow the Llangollen Railway Trust to make a “competitive bid” at the 12th May auction for key assets like at least one accessible carriage, function coach, road trailer, telehandler and a 12t crane.

With regards to reopening, around £100,000 is needed to cover overheads, which the trust says they would like to attract some grant funding.

The Llangollen Railway Trust board has also said that they are targeting a reopening at the end of July or early August.

If you would like to donate, you can do so via the Llangollen Railway fundraising page.

  • Let’s hope that they stop losing £300,000 a year from now on. I’m pretty that their management will be a lot more careful from now on, and the fantastic work of the volunteers will see the line recover and prosper.

  • AH, Thank Goodness the Llangollen Railway (in North Wales) has indeed A Well-Secured, Bright & Colorful Future Ahead…. I Always knew this Welsh Heritage Railway would succeed in fighting back, and Remarkably Survive.

I still hope on travelling to, and visit the Llangollen (& Corwen) Railway ‘in-person’ someday… I’d look forward to it, I mean it, I Really Truly would.

As with everybody (let alone keen eager enthusiasts galore, like never before), I still continuosly support the Llangollen Railway… And my heart still goes out to them as ever before.
