Northern has announced that they have temporarily withdrawn 22 of their 101 /331 trains, built by CAF.

A fault is affecting the mounting of the yaw dampers, a system designed to reduce the sway of a carriage means that 22 have been withdrawn whilst the issue is investigated.

The train operator has said that the 78 other trains have been fully checked and are operating as normal.

Northern has also said that the withdrawal of 22 trains is not currently affecting Northern services.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “A fault has been identified on some of the new fleet of trains built by CAF and operated by Northern.

“The fault is affecting the mounting of the yaw dampers (a system designed to reduce swaying motion in the carriage) and has resulted in 22 trains being removed from service while the issue is investigated.

“Northern is now working closely with CAF to determine the cause of the fault and to fix the issue. The remaining 78 trains in Northern's CAF fleet have been fully checked and are operating as normal. The units still in passenger service will be regularly checked as part of the ongoing engineering process.”

The spokesperson added: “At present, the temporary removal of the 22 trains, is not causing any impact on Northern's timetabled services.”

  • made in spain..n o doubt the brexiti will now wish they hadnt…spain is getting revenge of the uk for this rubbish and i think this may have something to do with it.! Doh.

  • I bet the same could be said with West Midlands Railway Class 196 and Transport for Wales Class 197. And maybe the same issue on Transpennine Express Class 397 Nova 2.

  • I do hope the fault in question, get resolved soon, and also for those new modern train units to return to rail service within the foreseeable future.
