has announced that punctuality across its network has hit a record high.

Punctuality, comparing timetabled route times against actual route times, was calculated as 92.8% over the course of 12 months.

On top of this, comparing against the rail industry standard public performance measure (PPM), 88.8% of ScotRail trains met this standard, showing a 2.3% increase on the previous year's number.

The train operator achieved these record-high figures despite extreme weather across Scotland in the last year. This has included temperatures dropping to as low as -23C at Braemar on Wednesday 10th of February 2021, a low not seen anywhere else in the UK since 1995.

Heavy snowfall has covered rail infrastructure and stations across the country, but ScotRail maintained a reliable service.

This is great news for passengers, as it shows ScotRail's commitment to ensuring trains arrive on time and efficiency from both ScotRail and Network Rail in resolving issues that affect train times.

ScotRail Operations Director David Simpson said: “Scotland's Railway was battling against heavy snowfall, and record low temperatures, especially in the north.

“Despite those challenges, it is encouraging to see the continuing improvement in punctuality, delivering a fantastic service for key workers and those who need to travel.

“Our front line teams across Scotland's Railway continue to perform superbly to keep trains moving in some very challenging conditions.

“It's good to see measures we've put in place such as advance weather warnings, our winter train which is equipped with snow melting heat-lances, and our fleet of snow ploughs all helped to minimise disruption and keep trains moving.
