The Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum have launched an appeal to raise the required funds to transport Ex-LMS goods wagon No M187085 to its new home.

Whilst its new home hasn’t been announced yet, due to the final details being confirmed, the wagon is currently based at a storage facility in Worcestershire.

The group needs to raise £1,140 to cover the transport costs, and once the wagon has been transported, restoration can begin, with components currently stored in Yorkshire, Bath, Gloucestershire and South Wales.

The appeal has been launched due to the Museum being given notice by the landowners that the wagon needs to be moved due to redevelopment work being completed.

The notice has been given until the end of March 2021, giving the Museum 55 days (at the time of writing) for the funds to be raised.

Only 32 of 1000 wagons of this type have survived, but all but two have been grounded, meaning their axles and sometimes their chassis has been removed and the shell placed on the floor. LMSR 179162 is currently based at Washford with the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust whilst M178085 is with the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum.

If you would like to donate to the appeal, there are two ways of doing so.

Over £400 has been raised in 6 days, so please help where possible.
