The Midland Railway Butterley has announced that they have begun a new appeal for BR diesel locomotive No. D2138.

The heritage centre and railway have a “one-off” opportunity to purchase a replacement Gardner 8L3B engine for the Class 03 locomotive.

The locomotive, which is locally historic, is complete but needs a functioning engine, meaning this purchase would mean the locomotive could return to service.

However, for this purchase to be completed, there is an urgent need for £4,500 for the purchase and transport of the engine.

You can donate to the appeal by visiting the Midland Railway – Butterley Facebook Page.

Any amount will be much appreciated by the MR-B and you can also add gift-aid to the donation.

The MR-B said “Unfortunately, given the prevailing conditions, the Trust is having to ask for donations as this opportunity will only last so long.  So, please help us seize this opportunity! Thank you in anticipation of any amount donation you are able to give the MR-B.”
