The boiler for LMS Black 5 No. 44806 has left the and has gone off for overhaul.

The boiler was hauled on a flatbed wagon by BR Class 25 No. D7628 ‘Sybilla' from Grosmont MPD to Newbridge Yard near Pickering.

From here, a lorry transported the boiler to Ian Riley & Sons Ltd in Heywood, where the boiler will be overhauled for use on the Black 5 once again.

Ian Riley is known for their ownership of sister Black 5 locomotives No. 44871 and 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier, as well as being the custodians of 60103 Flying Scotsman and LMS Black 5 No. 45212.

Whilst the boiler is away, the Grosmont MPD team will continue to work on the locomotives chassis, which should be ready for when the boiler returns.
