This weekend, 5th and 6th December 2020, work will begin to improve the railway line in West Cornwall, which will mean that replacement buses will be in operation to keep people moving.
Buses will be running on 5-6 December for people travelling from Penzance to St Erth and 7-10 December for people travelling between Penzance and Truro, and between St Erth and St Ives.
The work will start at Penzance on Saturday, affecting services between Penzance and St Erth. From Monday the 7th to Thursday 10th December it will extend to include Truro and the St Ives Bay line.
If you are travelling long-distance from London Paddington to Devon and most of Cornwall, these trains will continue to operate. Although, rail replacement buses will add up to 50 minutes to the journey time.
Mark Chorley, GWR Regional Station Manager, West, said: “We have been working hard to make sure that people can be confident to travel safely, and that includes running as many trains and carriages as we can to make extra room, and replacement buses where trains cannot operate, as well as enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures.”

“The improvements will help provide passengers with more reliable journeys and represents further investment in the railway in Cornwall following recent signalling upgrades in the South West.”
