The 1014 GWR County Project has released a short update on work that has progressed to construct 1014 County of Glamorgan.

One of the major milestones in the project has been reached for the new boiler for the locomotive. The barrel and the firebox have now been riveted together.

Next up will be the completion of the internal components found in the barrel and also attaching the various mounting and strengthening plates.

A patch on the rear corner of the outer firebox wrapper has also been completed, and this is common on corners where the bending stresses are high, and this causes the firebox to flex.

Corrosion can also occur where there are apertures into the boiler, and in the case of 1014 County of Glamorgan, some of the washout plugs.

You can read more about the work already completed by viewing the County of Glamorgan archive page here.
