2021 will be 40 years since the railway arrived on site, and to celebrate, they have organised for the Pannier tank to visit. It is the first time that a GWR Pannier locomotive has run on the Plym Valley Railway since 1962.

1369 visits thanks to the South Devon Railway – exact dates for the locomotive to be running on the Plym Valley Railway have not been announced yet, but the locomotive will appear for three weekends over June and July 2021.

Turning attention back to 2020, and with the lockdown in place, the Marsh Mills site is closed to the public and also volunteers until the 2nd December 2020.

The railway is still planning to run Christmas trains, starting on the 6th December 2020, but this is still to be confirmed due to the restrictions that may or may not be imposed.

  • Great news to hear but it would have been better to have 5541 visit as this locomotive has history running over the Launceston branch. 1369 never did. All the same it will be great to see

  • Great news for the Plym Valley, not so for me! I was hoping to see 1369 in late June at the SDR. I hope that the crowds will flock to the Plym Valley in 2021 to see 1369 providing them with much needed revenue and high profile exposure.

  • Also, I do Believe the New Year 2021, also marks 40 Years since this ”Eagerly-Must-Visit Heritage Railway first began it’s Role into Preservation.

Surprisingly, this Stretch of the exact Railway line, Hadn’t nor once seen A Great Western Loco, let alone A Pannier Tank, since 1962… Almost 6 Decades On.

I still plan on Aimfully visit the Plym Valley Railway ‘in-person’ Someday, I’d most definitely look forward to it.

  • Wow, That’ll be A Great & Cracking Highlight within UK Preservation,

The Plym Valley Railway, at long last seeing An ex-Great Western Pannier Tank Venturing onto it’s Own Restored Railway line, Especially up & down the course of the River Plym.
