Work on the lifts at railway station has been completed after a 3-month project to replace them.

Announced back in June, the £900,000 project has seen the lifts replaced with more modern lifts making them much nicer for passengers.

The old lifts on platforms 1, 2/3 and 4 were removed in July.

Step-free access at Luton Airport Parkway station was provided by Thameslink's assisted travel team, as all 3 lifts were closed at the same time to speed up the project.

Gary Walsh, Route Director for 's East Midlands route, said: “We're really happy that this upgrade is now complete. We know the old lifts were a big frustration to regular users, and the new ones on platforms 1, 2/3 and 4 are now more reliable.

“We worked hard to keep any impact on passengers to a minimum and we're really grateful for everybody's patience whilst this work took place.”

Tom Moran, Managing Director for Thameslink and Great Northern, said: “I'm delighted that our passengers at Luton Airport Parkway now have new, reliable lifts. This significant investment is a great step forward for the station and makes it even easier to take the train to or from Luton Airport. I'm very grateful to Network Rail for completing the work so efficiently, and to our passengers for their patience over the last few months.

“We're also giving Luton Airport Parkway better information screens and refurbished toilets as part of our network-wide, multimillion-pound station improvement programme.”

  • And a new light rail transit that is still under construction and isn’t going to be completed until late next year or in 2022 which will replace the shuttle buses. It’s great to see the station have lifts as it serves the airport few miles away via using shuttle buses and taxis.

  • Wonderful work Govia Thameslink Railway and Network Rail. Plus will East Midlands Railway allow some of their Class 360s to stop at Luton Airport Parkway as its replacing the Class 222 on London St. Pancras-Corby & Kettering services from next year.
