Transport Heritage NSW has announced that the testing and crew training of steam locomotive 3801 has been a great success, with six days of operations in the Southern Highlands of Australia.
The test runs were dual purpose; they were mechanical trials for the steam locomotive, but also acted as crew training and competency management trial runs.
3801 travelled 1,440km (around 900 miles) in six days, and the steam locomotive travelled south of Moss Vale to Goulburn for the first time in 13 years.
No operational incidents or delays were reported from the 93 shifts by staff members, who worked for a total of 749 hours (most were volunteered).
Transport Heritage NSW said: “Congratulations to our team of staff and volunteers for a very successful operation.”
“Special thanks to ARTC, CF Asia Pacific Goulburn, the Goulburn Roundhouse Preservation Society and NSW TrainLink for their support, as well as the local community who turned out to see 3801 in action.”
“We look forward to being able to operate the locomotive on passenger services in the future when COVID-19 restrictions ease.”
