Nine days of improvement works start on the East Suffolk Line this weekend

Works start this weekend on a 9-day closure of the for track replacement work near Brampton Railway Station.

Three kilometres of the track will be replaced and the road deck at the level crossing on Station Road in Brampton will be replaced.

Three nearby foot crossings will have decks replaced and the platform at Brampton Railway Station will be resurfaced.

Work starts on Saturday the 24th October and a replacement bus service will be in operation on the East Suffolk line between and until the early hours of Monday 2nd November.

The level crossing on Station Road in Brampton will also be closed with a diversion route in place for vehicles.

Ellie Burrows, 's route director for Anglia said: “We're continuing our programme of essential track renewal works to maintain the track and replace worn out sections to improve reliability.

“We have planned for this work to take place over nine days to minimise disruption for passengers. A continuous closure will allow us to get the work completed quicker than if we extended the work over many separate weekends.”

Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said: “We know engineering works are inconvenient for passengers, but this essential work will help improve punctuality and reliability for customers on the East Suffolk line.

A rail replacement bus service will run between Lowestoft and Saxmundham to ensure customers are able to complete their journeys. We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while this work takes place.”

  • It’s good that the East Suffolk Line needs more improvements including at level crossings. Same could be said with the Felixstowe branch line.
