has told RailAdvent that a milestone has been reached in their Know Your Train project.

A quarter of the rail network is now covered by the scheme, which tells passengers what to expect from their train, and what exact train they will be travelling on.

Know Your Train launched in March 2020 thanks to a partnership between Real Time Trains and ScotRail to provide passengers live information about what to expect onboard, for example, at-seat power and wifi.

The operators are also showing what locomotive or unit number operating the service.

The Know Your Train project has expanded since its introduction, and now passenger operators including Caledonian Sleeper, LNER, Northern and now allow this data to be seen by passengers.

Freight and charter operators, GB Railfreight and Locomotive Services Ltd also have public train allocations on Real Time Trains.

Tom Cairns, the founder of Realtime Trains, told RailAdvent: “The rail industry has long struggled to provide timely, relevant and accurate information about rolling stock on train services. Making this information accessible has been one of my long held aims and working in partnership with the operators to publish it through Know Your Train has resulted in a significant step forward for customer information.”

31,500 passenger services are now available under the Know Your Train system, which represents 27% of the network as it currently is (during COVID times).
