Tubeplate completed for new build steam locomotive 1014 “County of Glamorgan”

Tubeplate For 1014 // Credit 1014 The GWR County Project

The 1014 GWR County Project has confirmed that the tubeplate is complete for new-build replica Great Western Railway (GWR) 1000 ‘County’ No.1014 “County of Glamorgan”.

The tubeplate is a key part of the boiler for every locomotive. As the name suggests, the tubeplate in a circular plate which the boiler tubes fit to at the front of the boiler barrel (just behind the smokebox). These tubes are the small boiler tubes, big boiler tubes and superheater flues.

1014 will be fitted with a three-row superheater.

Over at Heritage Boiler Steam Service Ltd (HBSS), work is in progress on restoring the donor firebox. The team have fitted most of the patch studs around the rear curved corners on the firebox.
