Stadler has signed a framework agreement with Azienda Transporti Milanesi S.p.A. (ATM) which will see up to 80 TRAMLINK trams built by Stadler for Milan.
The order is worth around £157 million and is the first time that Stadler has built trams for Italy.
The initial build will see 30 vehicles delivered to Milan.
The 80 bi-directional trams will be used for both urban and interurban tram services.
There is no confirmation yet of when these new trams are likely to enter service.

The TRAMLINK incorporates Stadler's long-standing experience in passenger transport vehicles. I am convinced that our vehicles will successfully meet the challenges of Milan's urban transport, including the Winter Olympics in 2026”.
