Reduced train services have begun on the Snow Hill Lines. announced that from Monday the 14th September that some services were being temporarily withdrawn due to the impact of COVID-19.

Buses will be operating in place of some trains after the impact of the pandemic is making it difficult for the train operator to run a full service.

It said there had only been a small increase in passenger numbers and that less than 30% of pre- journeys are being made.

WMR Customer Experience director, Jonny Wiseman said “We are committed to providing as many trains as we can with the resources available. We are sorry that we have had to make this decision but the impact of the pandemic means, despite our best efforts, we are unable to run as many trains on the Snow Hill lines as we want to.”

Anyone using the Snow Hill Lines can check the West Midlands Railway website for the latest information.

  • I be look forward to the Class 196s coming into service that West Midlands Railway will use them on. And to increase more capacity on the Snow Hill Lines with extra trains being used. And the Class 170s cascaded to East Midlands Railway. Could West Midlands Railway expand from Lichfield Trent Valley to Burton-on-Trent with Class 196 & Class 172 to be used. If electrification isn’t the option. Or to order new Bi-mode trains so it can operate to Burton-on-Trent from Lichfield Trent Valley and Birmingham New Street using the Cross-City Line. And Class 730 Aventras soon to come into service.

  • Maybe it’s because they want to test run the Class 196 Civity units before they can start introducing them on the Snow Hill Lines before the end of 2020.
