The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has released its safety digest into an incident involving a track worker near Leighton Buzzard.
On Tuesday 16th June 2020, two track workers were completing a lineside vegetation survey on the West Coast Main Line between Cheddington and Bletchley.
At 16:28, the driver of a northbound train passing Leighton Buzzard at 125mph noticed a person stood next to the line where clearance was limited.
The driver sounded his horn, and the person moved swiftly out of the way, but not to a defined position of safety, around one second before the train reached him.
The train driver stopped his train and reported the near-miss to the signaller who then cautioned other trains through the area.
Network Rail managers were asked to investigate, but they were unable to locate anyone in the area, and at 17:45, normal working was resumed.
