The Somerset & Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton has announced that the first reupholstered seats for their RMB Carriage are now being returned to Midsomer Norton.

The cost of the moquette was nearly £2,000, and a further £5,000 was spent on the actual work to reupholster the seats.

Whilst the seats have been removed, volunteers at Midsomer Norton have been sanding down the interior panel for varnishing.

However, the appeal is still ongoing, and the railway still needs to urgently raise £2,500 to allow them to place an order for the Linoleum and have this installed by the end of September.

The target is to have the interior of the carriage completed by early October so that visitors to the buffet can sit inside to enjoy food and drink, whilst social distancing is followed.

In the future, the railway intends to use this carriage on passenger trains to allow passengers to enjoy cream teas and other food whilst enjoying a train ride through Somerset scenery.
