Network Rail has confirmed that it has now completed over £1 million of work to renew track and upgrade a rail junction in Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire.
Between Saturday, July 17th and Monday, July 20th, engineers renewed nearly 1 mile of track that runs through Miliken Park in Johnstone.
Along with 6,000 tons of ballast, more than 2,000 sleepers were installed over three days, and the track replaced.
Near Dalry, work has been completed at a key junction to replace several points to allow trains to cross over to other tracks.
The line between Ayrshire and Glasgow are key routes for both passenger trains and also freight trains.
Alan Ross, Network Rail Scotland's director of engineering and asset management, said: “Renewing and maintaining our railway is vital to the continued running of a safe and reliable service for our customers.
“The line into Ayrshire is a key route for both passenger and freight services, and this work will help to ensure we can continue to keep Scotland's Railway, and those who rely on it, moving.”

Could Network Rail electrify the Fife Circle Line from Edinburgh Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley to Markinch via Dunfermline Town and/or via Burntisland. And to use a mixture of ScotRail electric trains including the Class 334 Juniper, Class 380 Desiro and Class 385 “Express” AT200 trains.
