The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, alongside the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS), are urgently looking for donations after thunderstorms battered Scotland and caused multiple landslips on the heritage railway.
On the evening of Tuesday 11th August and early morning of Wednesday 12th August 2020, Scotland was battered by severe thunderstorms. During an inspection of the railway, the Civil Engineer for the SRPS discovered multiple landslips along a mile long stretch of the railway.
The line has been declared unfit for traffic, and the railway has been closed to all trains.
The worst landslip has occurred near High Bridge. An engineer has inspected the site and is now estimated that repairs will cost £100,000 to fix.
Of course, this could not have come at a worse time for the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway due to the railway planning to reopen in mid-September after being closed due to the Coronavirus.
Until the embankment is repaired, the BKR cannot operate trains, meaning they cannot generate any income.
Once again, the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway needs your help. They need £100,000 to fix the storm damage.

Andrew Fowler, director at the SRPS, told RailAdvent: “These landslides have come at a pretty devastating time for SRPS volunteers given that we were preparing for a mid-September reopening after a forced prolonged closure due to Coronavirus. Our income has been at a record low this year so to have to find a six-figure sum to allow us to reopen the railway safely is heartbreaking. We've been overwhelmed by the support shown for our ‘Emergency Landslide Appeal' thus far and would encourage anyone who can to donate so that we can resume passenger trains at Bo'ness as soon as possible.”
Whatever donation, however small, will be appreciated by the BKR.

Again, Judging by the evidence within the photographes of this latest article… No fellow preserved locomotive or railcar (especially of the B&KR) ever dare cross nor head along landsliped stretch of said Heritage Line,
Otherwise (As it’s Completely Dangerously Unsafe) said loco or railcar would unexpectedly derail, let alone topple down goodness knows where said Mode of Rail Transportation would end up.
Also, Again; my heart goes out (with my support) to the B&KR… Once Again Wishing them Good Luck on their Aimful Goal on Repairing their whole Heritage Line back to normal, especially upto safety standards too.
Oh My… So sorry to hear about what the Bo’ness & Kinniel Railway are unexpectedly going through… I can’t believe how much damage that typical thunderstorm has caused within the North of the Border.
Not too long ago… That there’d been the recent Train Derailment just near Stonehaven (of whom my heart & condolences still go out to those affected)…
And now the poor, poor B&KR unexpectedly suffer landslips en-rotue along it’s Well-Restored Heritage Line… Also, judging by the photos shown above the article, It’s Completely Dangerous for A sort of Train to Dare Pass.
My Heart still goes out (along with my support) to the Bo’ness & Kinniel Railway, Wishing them Good Luck on their Fundraising Goal of Eventually Repairing their Beloved Heritage Line through & through…. Especialy on their Role in Combating the Pandemic in-between.
I do hope the B&KR (of whom I still hope to travel up to & visit for A Train Ride ‘in-person’ someday) Successfully pull through.
Most other fellow Heritage Railways & Transportation Museums have proven Successful on their Aimful Goals… So surely the B&KR has further potential of doing so too.
