The has released an update on their fleet of Hunslet steam locomotives, based at Llanuwchllyn.

The running fleet of locomotives consists of three Hunslets, which is currently alternating between George B and Maid Marian. Winifred is serviceable but is having a rest in the Heritage Centre (which has been painted and cleaned), though Winifred has made an appearance recently on service trains.

Reserve diesel locomotive, Chilmark, has also found a new home temporarily in the Heritage Centre.

Alice is awaiting the fitment of its new boiler, which is part of the locomotive's ten-year overhaul, so it will be a while until Alice hauls trains once again.

Holy War is also in the middle of a ten-year overhaul and is now down to her bare chassis in the Workshop.

Rob Houghton, BLR's Chief Engineer, is attending to Holy War's axle boxes and bearings when he is not on the occasional footplate stint.

This means that both Holy War and Alice are work in progress, and will remain in the workshop for the foreseeable future.

Like all other heritage railways, the Bala Lake Railway has been closed for a number of months, so has lost out of possible passenger income. If you would like to help the Bala Lake Railway in their Appeal, why not purchase a copy of RailAdvent's DVD – £5 from each DVD/Bluray sale will go directly to the BLR. • I do hope the Beautifully Well-Preserved ”Bala Lake Railway” do eventually reopen back up and running ocne again soon withi nthe Foreseeable Future.

The BLR is one of the most Interesting & ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Transportation Destinations, that I myself have ever discovered/learnt about for as long as I can recall.

In-fact I passed Bala Lake itself once before when visiting Wales one time… Never actually visited nor rode the BLR itself ‘in-person’ though… However, I do hope to do so someday.

Even when I do… I’d look forward to it… Especially (once all this pandemic thing is over) that their still Aiming to hopefully/wishfully extend up to the town of Bala itself.

This Welsh Narrow-Gauge Transportation Destination most definitely has one of the most fascinating fleets of well-preserved (narrow-gauge) locomotives within the UK Preservation Movement.

The Bala Lake Railway even occupies what was once now a long-closed ex-Standard Gauge Cross Country line that ran from Ruabon-Barmouth en-route.
