Network Rail is urging parents to warn children about the dangers on trespassing on the railway, as newly released CCTV footage shows three teenagers risking their lives by trespassing on the railway near a level crossing near Leeds.
The incident happened in May at Ducketts level crossing in Pudsey.
Around 127 passenger and freight trains travel through this crossing each day at speeds of up to 60mph.
Network Rail have dealt with 22 incidents at Ducketts level crossing in the last 12 months, including four children running in front of a train and a woman taking her daily exercise along the track.
Dawn Sweeting, Community Safety Manager for Network Rail, said: “Trespassing is extremely dangerous, and the CCTV footage from Ducketts level crossing is shocking and incredibly worrying to watch. It's never safe to hang around on the railway.
“It's vital that we make young people aware of the dangers and the devastating consequences that trespassing can have by educating them, and by setting an example.
“We typically see a rise in trespass incidents during the school holidays, so please have a discussion with your children before it's too late – as everyone loses when you step on the track.”

It’s the right thing to do in highlighting the risks and dangers but why is there such a slack approach when it comes to those who commit acts of vandalism and trespassing to cover railway hardware and trackside walls and bridges etc with graffiti? I would be interested to know many arrests have been made to serve as a means of prevention along with the punishment served by the courts and the criminal justice system.
This is why the lockdown hasn’t helped with people going out ignoring the lockdown and doing stupid things including trespassing. But natural selection could of come lot sooner.

Yet more imbeciles trespassing onto the railway tracks. Makes me sick and angry hearing about it. 😡
