Alstom has confirmed it has taken a step forward in the introduction of its Alstom in Motion (AiM) plan in France by acquiring Ibre, a company specialising in steel or cast iron brake discs for trains, trams and metros.
Alstom and Ibre already have a long working relationship on projects for SNCF.
With this acquisition, Alstom will reinforce its capabilities regarding railway braking systems.
Ibre employes 30 people at its Sens site in Bourgogne Franche Comté and had a turnover of €10 million (approx £8.9m) in 2019
“This acquisition represents very promising development potential for Ibre and its employees and is in line with Alstom's strategy to extend its know-how,” says Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, Senior Vice President Alstom France.
Ibre products will be offered as original equipment and as part of maintenance contracts.
Following the purchase, the company has been renamed Alstom Ibre and is now a subsidiary of Alstom.
