The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways have announced that the first steaming of George England locomotive Welsh Pony will be broadcasted live.

On Saturday 27th June 2020, three broadcasts will be made.

Welsh Pony will be steamed next weekend for the first time in eighty years, and the broadcasts mean the public can watch at home. The three broadcasts are:

  • 10.00hrs – The lighting-up.
  • 13.00hrs – The first whistle.
  • 16.00hrs – Welsh Pony will hopefully move under her own steam.

Full details on how to watch will be released soon.

The featured image is a painting by Rebecca Kitchin BA, which has been specially commissioned for the occasion, and will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Welsh Pony Fund. Limited edition prints will also be made available.

Please Note: Boston Lodge Works is closed, and there is no public access.

  • Duke was based in one of the Ffestiniog England’s. I can’t say which one, but I suspect Duke was based on classmate Prince.

  • Is this the loco which appeared in one of The Railway Series by Rev W Awdry named Duke The Lost Engine?
