Resurfacing work at railway station means that the railway network gateway to the Lake District has been revamped.

The £80,000 project by and has changed the entrance road and car park. The station is now ready to welcome passengers once lockdown is eased.

The work was funded by Network Rail and was completed safely during the coronavirus crisis, with TMT (the contractors with the resurfacing task), working in line with government guidelines.

Additionally, the layout of the car park has been changed to improve safety for users.

The work started in mid-April and was completed on in early May.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “Windermere is a popular station for people visiting the town and those exploring the Lake District. The improvements will make a huge difference to our customers and others who also use the car park. I'd like to thank everyone involved for completing the work safely during this difficult time, which has meant an added layer of complexity.”

Alex Lewis, Asset Engineer at Network Rail, added: “This work will really improve the experience of passengers travelling to and from Windermere. A popular tourist spot, the new surfacing work will give the right impression to people coming to see the beauty of the Lake District.”
