Northern Trains Limited (Northern) will be introducing a new timetable from Monday 18th May 2020 to help key workers get to work.
The new timetables will see more trains on some routes. However, overall capacity will be reduced due to social distancing guidelines.
The advice remains that people should avoid public transport if necessary to keep key workers safe.
Those who absolutely must use the train should maintain social distancing and wear a face mask where possible.
A spokesperson for the rail operator said: “From next week we will begin to introduce an amended timetable that will introduce additional services on some routes. However, due to social distancing, there will be significantly reduced capacity on each and every one of our trains. We're therefore calling on people to help us keep the railway clear for those who need it most and to only take the train if there's no other way to travel. Those customers who have to travel by train should plan ahead, check the new timetable, and consider whether journeys are absolutely essential.”

Oh of course the managers want to keep their staff safe!! While they work from home, take care of the workers who blag sickness and give them 12 weeks at home and watch all the real workers run the company…..complete joke! So change the timetable but no one is on the trains anyway!!!!
Perhaps Northern should order more Class 195 Civity DMU and Class 331 Civity EMU and to operate them in the Northeast of England including operating the Class 195s on services such as Middlesbrough, Stockton, Battersby, Redcar, Saltburn, Whitby and Redcar.
And of course a new East Coast stopper service operating between York-Newcastle and Berwick-Upon-Tweet and stopping at stations that are on the East Coast Main Line but some stations which are not served or managed by LNER and to use Class 331s on that service but are managed by Northern.
