The National Lottery Heritage Fund has sent a grant of £47,000 to the to help pay bills and wages whilst the railway is closed.

Since lockdown began, the Nene Valley Railway has been closed to protect its staff, volunteers and visitors.

All staff, except two, have been furloughed and expenses minimised whilst the main source of income, from train tickets, has dried up.

Kim Shaw, Acting General Manager at Nene Valley Railway, said: “Thanks to the National Lottery and its players we now have a fighting chance of being able to welcome visitors back to the railway when we are allowed to reopen. We're grateful that The National Lottery Heritage Fund is supporting us at this crucial time – it's a lifeline to us and others who are passionate about sustaining heritage for the benefit of all. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has donated to our emergency appeal and would warmly welcome further contributions.

The grant has been made possible by National Lottery players and was awarded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund's ‘Heritage Emergency Fund'.

  • Brilliant news. I have been on the Nene Valley Railway at least twice and its good that they got the grant of £47,000 from the National Lottery Heritage.

  • I’d like to congratulate the Nene Valley Railway (which ‘I Myself’ hope to visit for A Train Ride up and down the line ‘in-person’ someday)… on Receiving, As well as Fundraising this huge amount of money… Especially to help combat/fight back Covid-19.

I do hope the NVR Reopens up and running once again within the foreseeable future.
This Heritage Railway (located in Cambridgeshire) sure does run through the Colorful Cambridgeshire Countryside of the River Nene.

Together the Valley of the River Nene, and the Preserved Railway (hence it’s name) make A Terrific Combination this part of the Midlands/Nearby East Anglia has to offer.

Well Done to the NVR so far by the way.
