The Midland Metro Alliance has made good progress on the second phase of the new Birmingham Westside Metro extension, despite Covid-19 impacting on work.
A decision was made to pause construction following guidelines introduced on the 23rd March 2020.
However, following further advice from the Government on the 31st March 2020, work on the Edgbaston phase of the extension resumed on the 3rd April 2020 with a reduced capacity.
Modifications to allow the work to resume included a remodelling of the welfare facilities, increased sanitisation, PPE stations, monitoring staff temperatures on arrival and also social distancing on site.
Site activities have focused on machine-based operations with drainage and paving tasks completed.
In line with the work, the team has also completed essential track replacement works on the existing tram system. This work started on 5th April and is now more than 50% complete.

West Midlands Metro you mean. Hopefully it can be extended to Coventry. As well a light rail transit for Coventry and new HS2 stations at Curzon Street and near Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International station. And possible extension to Merry Hill shopping centre.
