The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Preservation Society has posted the latest update on the overhaul of their 1966 Clarkson's of York built 2-8-2 wheel arrangement steam locomotive “River Mite”.
At John Fowler Engineering's workshop, good progress has been made in repairing or replacing parts of “River Mite”‘s running gear.
The old axleboxes were beyond repair; a new set, made from phosphor bronze, have now been machined.
The next stage will see these new axleboxes fitted, with engine's frame already upside down in preparing. Repairs continue on the motion.
Tender
Both layers of topcoat will be applied to the new tender tank top soon. Once finished, the tank top will be transported to Old Hall Farm, where it can be reunited with the tender's frame and fittings.
