Tourist Third Open No.56856

Following reports of a leak coming from the roof, 56856 was stored undercover at Pickering Station, on the (NYMR) while the railway is closed.

Now space has become available; the team will perform a temporary repair to last for at least two years, by which point 56856 is planned to be withdrawn from traffic for a major overhaul.

Unfortunately, only a small amount of work could be done before COVID-19 forced work to stop.

The lighting switchboard and its cables have started to return to the attendant's cupboard. Fittings, such as the North East Railway (NER) handles for the dresser's draws, have been attached. Attention to the roof will be one of the next tasks once work can resume.

A contractor currently has all the doors for repairs. Assessment and repairs to the wooden frame can now start with the all exterior metal panels from one side removed, with the panels all being renewed. The side requiring more work is being dealt with first.
