The Standard Steam Locomotive Company Limited, the group who is currently building 72010 Hengist, has confirmed that David Buck has been appointed as its new Patron.

David Buck brings a number of years experience in the business and heritage sector to the Clan Project. The group are aiming to build the 1000th BR Standard locomotive – which is taking place at CTL Seal in Sheffield.

Mr Buck currently owns Ex-LNER B1 61306 Mayflower, which he restored back to steam, with it hauling its first railtour for the first time in 40 years in 2014.

This was then followed in 2018 when he acquired the Steam Dreams Rail Company, which runs numerous tours throughout the year.

David is also lucky enough to have a half-mile-long railway in his garden near Windsor, where he runs his own locomotives.

David Buck is the second Patron for The Clan Project, with David following the late Sir William McAlpine, who acted as a patron until his death in 2018.

Mr Buck said: “Standard Pacific locomotives have always been one of my favourite classes and I couldn't be more delighted to be involved in the creation of the missing link – a new ‘Clan'.”

James Baldwin, President of the SSLC, said: “I'm delighted to welcome David to THE ‘CLAN' PROJECT. We are privileged to benefit from his experience in the heritage rail industry, and I look forward to working closely with him over the coming years as we progress towards our goal of seeing ‘HENGIST' in steam, pulling its first train.”
