The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society has launched an appeal to help raise the required funds to bring resident steam locomotive River Mite back to passenger service.
River Mite is currently undergoing its 10-year overhaul at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, and at the same time, it is having a brand new tender constructed along with new axle boxes.
The locomotive has been at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway since December 1966 and has been in service since May 1967.
The locomotive was delivered to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway by traction engine, which brought the engine all the way from York.
Ever since River Mite arrived, the locomotive has been on permanent loan to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Company.
Dan Holbrook, Council Member, told RailAdvent:
The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society is appealing for funds into our steam Loco River Mite. We are hoping to see it return to traffic later this year.
There are two ways of donating money towards the overhaul of River Mite; you can either:

Any donation, whatever the size, is gratefully received by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society.
