Greater Anglia has announced that they have worked with its WiFi provider to increase its bandwidth on its new Stadler trains.
The new trains operate on regional routes in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
Before the coronavirus outbreak, Greater Anglia recorded an increase in the number of people using WiFi on trains.
For those that don't know, bandwidth is the amount of data that can be downloaded or uploaded. As the number of users increases, the speed of browsing can decrease. So by increasing the bandwidth, the train operator has ensured that its passengers can enjoy fast internet connections, without any buffering.
What did the officials say?
Himesh Patel, Head of Greater Anglia's IT Service Delivery team, said,
“The reliability of the WiFi on our new train fleet is much better than on our old fleet, so more people will be using it to work, use social media or stream while they're travelling with us.
“To ensure that they still enjoy fast browsing speeds, we've increased the bandwidth to ensure it keeps pace with demand and delivers a good experience.”

Class 720/1 & Class 720/5 Aventras will also have WiFi and introduced in service in the Summer. Greater Anglia should as well keep the Class 379 Electrostars to operate on branch line services in Essex and on the Hertford East services.
