A film highlighting the dangers of railway trespass has won a top award at the New York Festival of Film and TV.
Tegan's story won the gold award in the Social Good category at the Festival. The film was made by Network Rail and The Edge Picture Company to tell the story of 16-year-old Tegan Stapleton who was visiting Bournemouth the day after her school prom.
Tegan ran across the tracks at Bournemouth station to get to her friend on the other platform, when she fell onto the live conductor rail, which carries 750 volts.
The film was made as part of the You v Train campaign. Tegan talks about her horrific injuries after the electricity passed through her left arm, through her heart, and then through her right arm. Tegan suffered a cardiac arrest, third-degree burns over 10% of her body, and her heart stopped beating for seven minutes.
The film also shows the quick decisions by South Western Railway staff who pulled Tegan away from the tracks and resuscitated her on the platform.

Mark Killick, route director at Network Rail Wessex, said:
“I'd like to pay tribute to Tegan for telling her story through this powerful film that highlights the devastating and wide-reaching consequences that trespassing on the railway can have.
“Winning this prestigious award will hopefully result in the film being seen even more widely and prevent others from making the same horrific mistake.”

Well this is quite Surprising, This public information film (well-informatively written and powerfully dramatic in-between) sure did well ‘Not Only Raising Awareness of this forever continuous issue, But Also a new-found winner having unexpectedly won more than an Award (or 2) at this Film & TV Festival across the pond.
Long before this modern ’21st century’ PIF came about, There were even more other Public Information Films that also dealt with Safety of the Railways, As well as showing (quite so graphically/shockingly) how dangerous it can be to ever dare trespass upon the track.
Well Done (& Congratulations) to this PIF by the way.
