Track maintenance teams from Network Rail in the Peterborough area are working hard to keep the railway running throughout the Coronavirus crisis.
During the lockdown, railway workers are continuing to maintain the track in the area to make sure the railway can operate safely.
This work is crucial to keep essential services moving, to allow people who cannot work from home to get to their jobs and to keep vital supplies moving across the freight network.
A reduced passenger timetable was introduced last month to allow a reliable service to remain in operation.
What did the officials say?
Liam West, Operative in Network Rail's Maintenance Team, said:
“Our work to maintain the tracks in the Peterborough area is crucial to keep essential freight and passenger services moving during this challenging time.
“I am proud to work with an exceptional team that works hard to make sure NHS staff, emergency service workers and supermarket staff can get to and from their jobs, as well as making sure that the railway can safely transport food, medical supplies and fuel across the country via freight services.
“The current situation has brought some new challenges, but we have an important role to play to keep Britain moving.”

With Network Rail building a underpass at Werrington Junction north of Peterborough railway station and to be completed next year. To allow freight trains and passenger trains to pass underneath the East Coast Main Line onto the Peterborough-Lincoln Line from London and East Anglia. That will help to end the bottleneck.
Could there be a flyover or underpass to be built at Colton Junction southeast of York where the ECML meets with the 4 track railway lines “North Pennine Lines” to reduce the bottleneck. And other major projects to make the ECML a better major railway line in England.
