The has announced that their Coach Appeal is now into five figures, raising more than £10,000.

The Appeal seeks to raise funds towards purchasing four new vehicles for the Staffordshire based line. These vehicles, three open style and one brake carriage will be paired with the railway's current rakes of carriages, forming two sets of five coaches for passengers, along with four dining coaches.

This is the fleet the CVR will need for running trains across their track, including the extension to . With the extension to Leek making good progress, the line must ensure adequate rolling stock is ready.

  • I still remain with the view that the Leek line should terminate in the catlle market, given that this can be relocated. Could this not be a win win??

    • Chris the cattle market is much lower than the current embankment, and would cost an astronomical amount to either raise the cattle dock area or make the alterations to the embankment to enable the railway to access the cattle market. It’s a complete non-starter I’m afraid.

  • This is Jolly Good News, I Always knew the Churnet Valley Railway (whom I myself, have yet to visit ‘in-person’ someday) would succeed so far successfully on this intriguing appeal.

Still quite surprised to learn when it comes to train-track extensions, most Heritage Railways tend to appealingly acquire further coaching stock suitable for said extension in-between.

Well Done (and also further Good Luck to) the Churnet Valley Railway – Staffordshire,
Keep it up, You’re doing as successful las you lot let on.

    • The CVR is a wonderful little line.. It’s my local heritage railway and even though the only engine they current operate are two S160s, two class 33s, a TKH polish engine and a BR Class 08 (with their flagship engine, 44422, awaiting and overhaul)..

You will love the line.. trust me
