The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has announced it has launched an investigation after a person was fatally struck by a train at station.

At about 19:05 hrs on Wednesday 26 February 2020, a person suffered fatal injuries after falling from the platform at Eden Park, and being struck almost immediately afterwards by a train operating the 19:00 Hayes to London Charing Cross passenger service.

The person who sadly died had impaired vision. In common with many British mainline stations, the platform edge was not equipped with a surface designed to warn people with impaired vision when they are near the edge.

The RAIB investigation will aim to identify the sequence of events which led to the accident and will also consider factors relating to the installation of tactile surfaces on station platforms.

The RAIB will release their findings in due course.
