The has, despite the Coronavirus Crisis, continued its planning for its extension to Leek and has launched a coach appeal.

Recently, the railway received an 80% Grant from the European Agriculture Rural Development Fund – more information can be found by clicking here.

The Churnet Valley Railway has now welcomed BR Mark 1 coach No. S4046, which is the third coach to arrive at the railway in 2020.

The CVR has purchased this coach for restoration back to passenger service.

An appeal has now been launched to cover the purchase coast and transport cost of the coaches as well as preliminary work ahead of a full restoration of each carriage.

So far, the cost is just over £17,000 and supporters of the heritage railway, which currently runs for 10.5 miles from Cheedleton to Kingsley and Froghall, have donated £9085.

The Churnet Valley Railway is asking members of the public to donate small amounts that they can afford, with a suggestion of £10, which is less than a day ticket on the CVR.
