The LMS-Patriot Project have released an update on the construction of their London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Patriot Class No.5551 “The Unknown Warrior”.

Work has been progressing well at West Shed, where the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust was building 5551 until the current Coronavirus lockdown lead to the decision to close West Shed.

Despite this, small amounts of work are being carried out by West Shed's Chief Engineer Simon Scot at his home workshop. Once restrictions are lifted, work can resume, and delivery of the motion from Statfold Barn can be made.

The Project is currently raising funds towards the cost of fitting the braking system and producing axleboxes for 5551. Further information can be found here.

At the time of writing, (HBSS) are continuing with building the boiler for “The Unknown Warrior”, where current work is seeing many stays fitted and forming the boiler cladding. Unfortunately, the safety test passed dome and cover will likely not be shipped for machining, delaying their return back to HBSS.

Work on the tender's frame is almost complete, which will then allow the painting to be carried out.

Supporting The LMS-Patriot Project

With heritage lines closed, causing events to be cancelled, the Project cannot raise money via the sales stand. To ensure funds are available to proceed with work at contractors, the Project is asking for donations
