The East Lancashire Railway has announced that steam locomotive 0-6-0 6412 will be visiting them for their Spring Steam Gala, which will take place on 6th – 8th March 2020.
The timetable for the East Lancs gala has not been announced, but you can expect 6412 to feature on all three days before returning to Devon.
6412 joins L&Y No. 752, running as 51456 (first passenger trains since 1982), L&Y Class A No. 52322, Hunslet 2890 ‘Douglas', LMS Black 5 No. 44871, BR Standard 4 No. 80097 and MSC No. 32 ‘Gothenburg' at the gala.
6412 is 1 of 3 surviving 64xx class built. The locomotive was built in Swindon works in 1934, she was designed by Charles Collett and was built mainly for branch line auto trains. She was preserved along with fellow 64xx No. 6430 and 6435 and sent to Buckfastleigh in the mid-1960s.
The locomotive was the first loco to work along the Dart Valley Railway hauling passengers on the 5th April 1969 as a four-car auto. She also worked on the West Somerset Railway and hauled their first train and starred in the TV show ‘The Flopton Flyer' filmed on the West Somerset Railway.
With a boiler pressure of 165 PSI and a front half rocking grate, she is a joy to prep and fits the South Devon Railway nicely.

Had a couple of rides behind -6412 at ELR gala.I was surprised how lively the engine was pulling 5 carriages.The engine just managed to get the train over the hump on its way from Bury to Haywood.
Spent many happy days firing 6412 in the early days of the WSR
I traveled behind 6412 on a low loader at 8.30am this morning they were near the M5/M6 split heading M6 northbound, a lovely sight to see
Flockton Flyer not Flopton, please.
