Coronavirus strikes again – Northern AND TransPennine Express announce Thursday cancellations

Whilst heritage railways have been closing and cancelling events left right and centre, nothing has come from the mainline train operating companies.

However, all that has changed today as Northern, TransPennine Express and South Western Railway have all announced train travel advice.

South Western Railway is also warning of a similar thing to Northern TransPennine Express as they see passenger numbers tumble.

Northern has currently advising passengers to check before travelling as all train services are subject to short term notice cancellation and delay due to staff illness.

These cancellations will affect:

• Liverpool – Manchester Airport
• Liverpool – Blackpool North
• Blackpool – Manchester Airport
• Sheffield – Doncaster
• Sheffield – Gainsborough
• Leeds / Sheffield – Nottingham
• Manchester Victoria – Kirkby via Atherton
• Manchester Victoria – Leeds fast trains (trains from Chester and Wigan via Dewsbury will continue to run)
• Manchester Piccadilly – Hadfield will be an hourly service
• Leeds – Harrogate fast trains (these are 15 mins past the hour from Leeds and 2 mins passed the hour from Harrogate)
• Saltburn – Darlington (Saltburn – Bishop Auckland will operate as normal) will be hourly.
• Newcastle to Carlisle fast services

TransPennine Express have announced that the following services are cancelled on Thursday 19th March 2020:

• Huddersfield to Leeds (local services)
  • 0649, 0849, 1049, 1249, 1449, 1649, 1849, 2049, 2252
• Leeds to Huddersfield (local services)
  • 0747, 0948, 1147, 1347, 1547, 1747, 1947, 2147, 2347
• Huddersfield to Manchester Pic (local services)
  • 0653, 0854, 1053, 1253, 1453, 1653, 1853, 2053, 2246
• Manchester Pic to Huddersfield (local services)
  • 0600, 0800, 1000, 1158, 1358, 1558, 1800, 1958, 2158
• Anglo-Scottish services
  • 0557 Carlisle to Edinburgh
  • 0812 Edinburgh to Manchester Airport
  • 1207 Manchester Airport to Edinburgh
  • 1612 Edinburgh to Manchester Airport
  • 2007 Manchester Airport to Edinburgh
  • 0422 Glasgow to Manchester Airport
  • 0907 Manchester Airport to Glasgow
  • 1308 Glasgow to Manchester Airport
  • 1707 Manchester Airport to Glasgow
  • 2101 Glasgow to Preston
