The Wensleydale Railway have announced that they will host the first-ever class 142 pacer workings in preservation on their ‘Pacer Day.'
Pacers 142028 and 142060 will work the yellow timetable on Sunday 23rd February, and they will be working in multiple.
The standard day rover price of £17.80 for adults, £16 for seniors and £9 for children apply, with no discounts available for this day.
A cask of Real Ale will also be opened on the train!
After the event, 142028 will be withdrawn from service for the foreseeable future for overhaul and repaint into a new livery.

History of Class 142 ‘Pacers'
96 Class 142s were built at Derby Litchurch Lane Works between 1985 and 1987 and were a development of the Class 141, which were introduced in 1984.
They were designed as a short term stopgap for British Railways while more modern stock was being produced, but they ended up still in service well past their intended lifespan.
The bodywork is based on a Leyland National bus and had bus-like seats and fittings.
Currently, all pacers are set to be withdrawn in 2020, with most being scrapped, and some surviving into preservation.

I don’t think most of the 142s have been scrapped, although over a third of them have. A load of them went into storage and will be exported apparently; country not yet known.

Wonderful news. Glad that they have inherited 2 former Northern Class 142 Pacers and to have a “Pacer Day”. I bet Nodrog, Vicki Pipe and Geoff Marshall will be very pleased about it.
