has released an update on the overhaul of their London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 ‘Black Five' No 5025.

A big milestone has been reached in an overhaul of No.5025 with the boiler being lifted back onto the frame.

In the weeks leading up to the lift, the team were busy forming, trial fitting and finally fixing in place the boiler lagging and cladding plates.

Two of the three boiler barrel sections have been fitted, the third one (at the rear of the barrel nearest the firebox) is left off for the lift to allow the lifting ropes to be attached.

The firebox has received lagging and cladding to both sides and top, with the backhead to be completed at a later date.

The Trust still have much work to complete before we can see 5025 in steam.

The estimated budget has been exceeded through additional work, such as new cylinders, with the Trust appreciating any donations towards the overhaul cost, which the link can be found on their website.
