Steam locomotive 35018 British India Line will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Blackburn on Saturday 29th February 2020.
The locomotive is on a special railtour. 35018 British India Line is hauling the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.
Please note: we believe this tour to be part-hauled by 35018 British India Line. However, this is subject to change.
The railtour departs London Euston behind an electric locomotive at approximately 07:10 am.
The railtour will then head for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Milton Keynes Central (07:45), Rugby (08:24), Nuneaton (08:43), Crewe (09:37) and Preston (10:25) before arriving at Carnforth Down and Up Goods Loop at 10:49.
Here, the 35018 British India Line will be added to the front of the train. The train will depart with the locomotive at 11:24, steaming through Oxenholme (11:41) and Penrith (12:19), it will go non stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:41.
After around an hour in Carlisle, 35018 will depart Carlisle at 14:13 bound for London Euston. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:39) and will stop for water at Appleby (15:00).
Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, the locomotive will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 15:56, continuing to Settle, the train comes off the Settle and Carlisle line at Settle Junction (16:10) where it heads for Hellifield, for a water stop, at 16:16.
From here, 35018 British India Line will pass through Clitheroe (17:08) and Blackburn (17:34) before arriving into Preston at 17:57.
At Preston, 35018 British India Line is taken off the train, and an electric locomotive will take the same path back to London Euston, calling at Crewe (19:27), Nuneaton (20:27), Rugby (20:50), Milton Keynes Central (21:20) and Watford Junction at 22:05.
The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of London Euston at 22:29.
