These awards also recognise those people who have gone above and beyond to deliver great operational performance.

This is not the first award for Merseyrail recently as they were operator named most punctual operator in 2019, and it also came 1st in the National Rail Passenger Survey for Autumn 2019.

What did the officials say?

Zoe Hands, Operations Director at Merseyrail, said:

“This is a fantastic achievement and testament to everyone involved in providing the reliable and customer-focused service that Merseyrail is famous for.

“It's nice to know that at a time when there is a lot of bad news in the railway industry, that there are success stories too.

“There are a lot of people working hard to make the railway the best it can be and I know we couldn't have achieved our levels of performance without our partners in Merseytravel, Stadler, British Transport Police, Carlisle and especially Network Rail.

“It's particularly satisfying that while we've just been awarded for last year's performance, we now have our first period of 2020 under our belts and that was saw us achieve well over 97% of trains arriving on time or within 5 minutes so we continue to push the boundaries of what's achievable.”
