As part of the package, Cleveland Bridge is working with the NYMR to have designed, fabricated and installed the 84-tonne bridge. It also includes the dismantling of the old bridge, earthworks and casting of the concrete elements.

The NYMR's project has been made possible by grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Rural Payments Agency, the Local Enterprise Partnership and the donations from supporters.

With a combination of donations and grants, the railway has raised over 90% of the funds to complete its YMJ project. However, the heritage railway still needs to raise an additional £800k. If you would like to donate, please click here.

This bridge replacement allows the railway to run between Grosmont and Pickering for many years to come, running via Goathland and Levisham. They also run on the national network between Grosmont and Pickering.

What did officials say?

Chris Price, NYMR General Manager, said:

“This investment in the future of our railway paves the way for future generations to enjoy our vibrant rail history.

Cleveland Bridge UK have been a pleasure to work with on this project and their intrinsic involvement builds on the trust and professional partnership that we can hope to continue for many years to come.”

  • I also wonder how many bridges are there along the well-restored route of the NYMR,
Bridges it crosses, as well the ones passing beneath en-route between Picturesque Pickering and Glamorous Grosmont, let alone towards Wonderful Whitby.

Let’s hope the NYMR might fundraise once again on replacing and restoring other bridges it owns and carries said train track across most becks in-between.

  • Wow, I must say … The NYMR have done such a Jolly Successful and Well-Appealing Job so far on Restoring/Replacing this Historic so-called Bridge 27.

I wonder if they’re also aiming to do same on their Bridges 26 and 25 (also south of the NYMR’s Glorious Goathland Train Station) …

Surely, the NYMR mentioned at least 3 bridges as part of it’ latest ”Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey” Appeal.
