Speaking in the House of Commons today, Boris Johson has said that the cabinet has given the ‘green signal'.

The Prime Minister said that ‘we are going to get this done' in his speech.

HS2 is a new rail link between London and the north. Phase 1 of the new line will see trains running between London and Birmingham, with Phase 2 seeing the new rail link head to Manchester and Leeds.

Boris Johnson has also said that new measures will be put in place to restore discipline to the programme.

A new minister will also be appointed to oversee the project full time.

‘changes to the way HS2 is managed' are also coming, said Mr Johnson.

  • I still think that HS2 will get the go ahead which it has but it’s still going to cost huge amounts of money (something like £Billions). And with new trains that will be longer and faster for HS2. As Bombardier+Hitachi have won the contract to manufacture new rolling stocks when HS2 is completed in different stages.

  • Believe in HS2 (all of it) as its NOT just about timings. Capacity issues on the ECML & more so, the WCML are the important factors here.

  • I’M all for HS2. Experience elsewhere shows how such high-speed railway lines play a positive transformational role for the regions served, and beyond. Greenhouse gases will be reduced, and traffic on parallel motorways can cease growing.
