Work has begun on the removal of 's railway bridge, found just outside the station at the Pickering end of the railway.

Railway workers have removed 3x 60ft lengths of rail and have taken sleepers away that were within the deck.

The next job for the team is to put in temporary rails – this is to allow the Kirow cranes to get as near as possible to the bridge to carry out the lift. The rail for this is of 30ft lengths which are then cut to size.

This bridge replacement is all part of the Yorkshire's Magnificient Journey project launched by the .

The project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and also donations. £10 million is needed to complete the job, and after support from the HLF and Rural Payments Agency, the railway needs to raise £1m by 2022 to complete the project.

If you can help the NYMR, then please click here to donate, however big or small.

As you can see, the railway now needs less than £800,000 of the £10m needed – please give generously.

  • Furthermore,

I wonder if there’ll be A Third Television Series of that Remarkable TV Documentary Programme that the NYMR featured in.
The ”Great Yorkshire Steam Railway” of course.

  • I would like to Congratulate the NYMR on how well they’ve been fundraising on there so-called ”Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey” Appeal.

Almost A Decade On from Rebuilding there other bridge towards Grosmont … Now they’re finally getting round to doing same on other bridges south of their Goathland station towards Pickering at last.

Let’s Hope the Bridges once rebuilt are fully up-to-date and able safely carry passenger trains across en-route.
